My goal is to scan a coloring book page and eventually ungroup the pieces so that I can cut them in different colors for paper piecing. I can scan the picture into inkscape. I've tried to trace bitmap it. But it won't let me ungroup. Is there a way to do this? I would even be happy to just change the colors in robomaster, but it won't ungroup to do that either. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Diane

from my experience, you need to do all of the file manipulation in Inkscape. You can still separate each piece in RM, but it takes a LOT longer than if you just do it in inkscape.
make sure all the pieces are separated well in inkscape before saving as a dxf.
after you autotrace in inkscape, to separate the pieces, select your image then:
path: break apart
click anywhere off of the image
then click each piece separately to separate the pieces.
save as dxf, open in RM & group each piece one at a time and change the line color to your liking as well.
hope this makes sense.

And, once you have the break apart working check out the tutorial in the Inkscape section on how to prep the file for saving and opening and doing multiple color lines....it should be beneficial 2 u

I don't see autotrace in inkscape. I have the newer version. Where am I missing it?

It's called TRACE BITMAP, and is in the PATH MENU.
Please use the Inkscape tutorials on the site here, while here were changes to the new inkscape they weren't so much that the tutorials won't work!

it is not just a button that says autotrace.
to autotrace in inkscape do this:
open your file
go to: view: display mode: click outline
select your image
go to: Path: object to path: path: object to path: trace bitmap
have you read the tutorials from here that teach tracing methods in inkscape? if not, you should be able to get a better grasp on how to do this. they may seem lengthy, but are easy to follow & once you go through the steps a few times, you'll be able to do it very quickly. The same terminology for the tutorials will work for the newer version of inkscape--the buttons just might look a little different.
