Hi, Im Caz and I have just got a Silhouette (quickutz) a few days ago. I would love to know how to create words / phrases (word welding) also the FAQs for the silhouette says you can cut out designs you have created - what software packages can you create these designs in (other than the silhouette software). Thanks. Caz

I am not overly familiar with Silhouette and it's abilities or not. Someone else will come along and answer for sure!

I am not sure if WInPC works, but I have heard it's great.
I currently use Illustrator.
And I know some use Inkscape which is free.

Good luck in your qwest. Once you get it down you'll be addicted, like some fo us are, but aren't willing to admit. just yet anyways.

Hi!! Download the tutorials for the Wishblade they are close enough to your machine that you can use it!! Learn them and learn them well!!! Once you get that down there are a ton of other programs you can learn!!!

Also not sure if you are aware but there is an update for your machine at the QK site so make sure you download it!!!

I suggest doing the tutorials, since your Silhouette is basically a Craft Robo. Once you learn your machine, you can decide what software you might want. You might find that you don't need to buy anything. There are some tools out there that are free. Before getting Illustrator, I did tracing with the tools in Wishblade and found them quite versatile and easy to use. Anyway, my suggestion is that you should learn your program, then consider getting other software that will meet your needs!

Thank you all for your advice, I will get the Wishblade tutorials and have a play as you suggest - I went to the QK site but could not find an update other than the one for MAC users - where abouts should I be looking?

To get the updated software (that fixed the problems of people being unable to save files) you have to click on your icon in your program that allows you to got the the Silhouette design center. It will then take you to the design center, and to the link for the software patch.

Caz, I did the tutorial for Inkscape after going through all the tuts for the WB. I didn't want to spend more money on software if possible, so the free program did it for me. So I have been welding words, autotracing, and all sorts of great things thanks to the talented folks who have shared their knowlege with us. So I recommend that you try that route before you decide if you want to buy additional programs.
