first cut marks carrying sheet--did I mess up?

Hello, everyone.

This is my first post. I just set up my new CR today, and managed to cut out a name. However, I note that the carrying mat shows that name (much as the Sidekick or other diecut cutting pads retain images). Is that normal, or am I doing something wrong? I was cutting cardstock, using the red blade.

It is normal to mark into the carrier sheet (especially when you are just getting used to your machine!) Depending on the thickness of the cardstock you may be cutting with too deep of a blade (just check out the manual or search for more thread info about this). Of course iff you cut into your mat too deeply it can catch and dull your blade more quickly.

but other than dulling your mat - it doesn't seem to do much more!!! All my mats are marked up!!! LOL

And I have been cutting forever!!! LOL
