This is my 3rd post. I'm not sure I'm doing this right. I left a post in the KNK section and no one has answered. I have learned a lot of information here and enjoy this forum. Seriously thinking about the KNK 15 or is it an XL and is there a difference? So many questions.

Welcome to the forum! Sundays (especially in the summer!) are slow on the forum. I think Chris Dunan (one of our other designers) left you a post on KNK forum.

If I am not mistaken - they are called the same thing.

There use to be a 15" and a 13" but the stopped carring the 13" when they came out with the element!!!

Welcome milliejs! Great to have you here!

I am awaiting for my Element to arrive so I have no answers for a KNK yet. Hope to have more info later! I will probably be on here asking questions! LOL!

Welcome to the forum! You will learn a lot here! Most of the designers either already have a KNK or are waiting for theirs to arrive! I am ordering my Element as soon as Michelle gets back to work! So excited... I finally decided that the Element has everything I need and will take up a little less space! lol! I am so excited about being able to cut some of that textured cardstock I am stocked up on! It's not Bazzill (don't know the brand name) but it is as tough to cut and I have a ton of it! So I will have to learn some patients and get my house good and clean so when it gets here I can take some time to learn it! Woo Hoo!

This is my first post. I didn't know there was a KNK section. I will have to find it. My husband said I could order the KNK next week. I am so excited. I would like to get to know as much as possible about the KNK before it arrives. I am excited but very hesitant because I now own the cricut and it is so simple. I will keep my cricut because we go camping a lot and it will be so easy to take with me in the camper.

I have been a Wishblade owner for a year and just got the Element. So far I like it, but haven't really started cutting, only converting files with the software. Today I am hoping to play with it a bit.

You can buy the Element or the larger XL from Michelle. They are in the store at the following links!

Element http://www.paperthreads.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=45_61&products_id=1209

XL http://www.paperthreads.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=45_61&products_id=1104

Good luck with your purchase.

you guys give me WAY too much credit. This site is built on membership, I just have to make the tough decisions, like what color I want the heading to be!

Otherwise, you all basically run things amongst yourselves!

The KNK is an absolutely wonderful machine. I would be lying if I told you that I didn't have hesitations when I first got mine. I thought it was going to be overwhelming, but then I actually SAT down and hooked the darn thing up, and I am in love! It took me seconds to work out how to do things, and i quickly found the added power of the machine to be an added benefit. The software is easy to learn, though you do have to take the time to actually LEARN it :) And because you have so many options, you do have to play around with it a bit to learn where everything is!

I know Shirley just told me today that when she first started doing some file conversions the other day, at first she was a little bit overwhelmed with it, and she didn't think she would find her way through it (as by now she is very used to using Illustrator!) but that after a few times of going through the steps, it all just sort of clicked in for her!

oh I only hope I see the light and hear the click!! LOL

Click, click, click and you are done! The only thing I don't like is that I lose all the colors and have to redo that, but other than losing, it is easy! Michelle says that I lose the colors because I used layers in Illustrator.

Hmmm - I don't use AI - I use WinPC - I wonder if I can export something other than the AI to convert to my KNK to make it easier?

Michelle - what do you think??

Lori

Lori, as you don't use layers in WinPC, yo should be fine with AI format. You could also try EPS format.

Beloved K

I think that when I export to AI version - then to KNK it will not take my color lines either will it??

Lori

It does take your color lines. However, if you convert all the lines to hairline in order to cut on the KNK. You cannot select all and convert because they will all turn to black. You have to select each line and convert to hairline in order to retain the color. Make sense? you dont want the thickline attribute. The color does transfer over. It just does not hold if you do a select all and convert to hairline then they all turn to black. hope that helps.

Enjoy!

hmmm - why do the lines have to be hairline???

Lori

Paperthreads
07-27-2007, 08:27 PM
The other option is a thick line attribute, and the best way to explain it is

the program will treat the left side of the line as a path and the right side of the line as a path, and so will cut 2 pieces following the path...so you have to change it, to follow centerline, which is called hairline in KNK Studio

Now, I'd NEVER say that :) I would never want to lose Shirley, she is my LIFESAVER! Her, Jenette, and Sally have been the three people that I have so respected on this message board, as they always remain so positive!

And then, I got so lucky with Chris joined us, and then Lori and the others! :) We just have a rockin' good team here!
