Hi! I have been lurking around the past three days trying to figure out what machine to buy. Actually, it started with the fact that I just bought a Big Shot from Sizzix...still hasn't arrived and I am wishing I had put the money towards one of the machines that cuts it out for you. Anyway, I have a bunch of questions that I haven't been able to figure out from pouring over the forums.
1. Does anyone who owns a machine still find use for a manual cutter like a Big Shot? If not, maybe I can finance my purchase by Ebay'ing all my diecuts (and whoa I have a lot). If I were to scan my diecuts in to my computer, can I still use the ones I have from Sizzix? Or is there no need, really.
2. I am heavily leaning towards the KNK Element, the main thing left that worries me about it is that it lacks the optical eye. I know I will want to do print & cuts, how difficult is it to manually set it up each time? I really want to be able to have die cuts of images I have stamped. Is print & cut the method I would use? Or, do you somehow scan the image into the computer & go from there...then stamp the image after it has been cut out?
3. Is there a way to use a digital picture...say of my kids & have it cut out the childs form?
4. I need to find ways to use the machine to make projects or things we can use as a fundraiser for my kids theater group. We sell things during the run of the show to help pay for the building, costume costs, etc. One thing that does well in the past is that we take digital pictures of all the kids and laminate them, then glue magnets to the back. I wonder if there is something even more creative that could be done with this machine. Annie is the February play, so I am thinking at least we could cut out the title and use it for the kids scrapbook pages we make & sell. I looked at the gallery, but wasn't able to see much in the way of projects. And the KNK files...I can't read.

PHEW....if you made it through all that.....THANKS in advance!!!

Darcy :o)

Hi Darcy,
I bought the Element and haven't regretted it since (actually I already upgraded to the XL-my only regret LOL)... I just LEARNED to do print and cut today with Michelle and it works great! I am doing exactly what you want to do. I am taking photos of my kids and making magnets with them doing print and cut. I HAD a Cricut and sold it on ebay along with some of my other things to buy the XL. It is soooooooooo worth it. I have had my machine since August and am STILL amazed and still learning more things that it can do! You can even scan pictures of files you could've cut with the Big shot and do them here. Feel free to write. Michelle is great for customer service also and teaches great too!
Good luck!
Carol

Lol...can you tell Carol is whizzing a long on her machine now?

Maybe she'll post some pictures of her wall art she has done and her magnets in the gallery here for people to see!

All I can tell you right now is if you want a machine, make up your mind fast....as there are only a very few Elements left, no XL's left, and then there are some 13". After they sell out, there will be no more machines until end of January/beginning of February.

Otherwise, the only machines we will have in stock are CraftRobo CC200-20's, which I have in stock but not listed in the store yet.

Thanks for the quick responses! Well, my hubby didn't say no, so I am taking that as a yes. I would like to order one, what other blades/accessories would you recommend? Also, before I sell off my Sizzix die cuts should I scan them or just make & keep a die cut of each? Carol, would it be possible for you to show me a picture of your magnets? That sounds great! Thanks again!! Darcy :o)

I cut mine from dark paper, scanned them then traced....but to be honest, the possibilities are so huge with the machines, I haven't touched all those files in about 2 years!

I love my Element! I don't think you can go wrong . . .and if you scrap you might was to consider the 13" I don't scrap so the Element is working great for me!

Shirley I do scrapbook and I was told that I only need the Element if that is all I do, curious to know why you are recommending the 13" for scrapbookers???

If you want to cut full 12 by 12 overlays (though some only scrap 8 x 11) you might need the full 13 inch capability.

HI Jen I scrapbook on 12 x 12 pages so are you telling me I might be better off with the 13"?

I haven't purchased my machine yet but will be shortly so I want to make sure I invest in the correct one

Here's a sample of an overlay:
http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog_old.jsp?CATID=82034&PRODID=134142&AID=10273743&PID=2336019

so if you think you might want to do something like that someday...and can afford it now...go for the bigger one! :)
But with the element you can do most everything scrapbookers usually do and use your hand paper cutter for larger things (background pieces, etc.

I see Jen has already answered you pinkfrog. The larger KNK allows you to do the 12 inch overlays. Since I don't scrap, it isn't an issue with me!
