Hi everyone, I just found your wonderful forum searching for more info on cutters. I checked out the chart - so helpful - thanks!

I need a good quality, computer based cutter to make product samples with. I have some specific needs/questions that I'm hoping you can help me with:
* Must be able to cut completely custom art. We use AI & PS so we can generate files from that.
* Must be able to cut craft felt & foam
* Helpful if it can cut craft wood but not required

It appears that I might be looking for the KnK, but I'm unclear esp about the file format(s) and the ability to cut various types of craft felt. Does someone here have experience with this?

You can cut all of the materials you mention on the KNK. HOWEVER, Craft Felt, while it cuts, is a VERY non compliant medium. In other words, no two pieces are the same, and you will find that you will be adjusting your settings. It will also dull your blades faster. This is entirely due to the media itself.....those fibers aren't the best for the blades.

You can also cut Balsa Wood, metals, the craft foam, basswood, styrene (some mils of it) and other materials...so there really is a large amount of things you can cut. The "tougher" the material, the more wear and tear you will experience on your machine and blade. Think of when you use scissors for these items, how much quicker your scissors dull out...that is how it will be with the blade tip

you can create in Illustrator. The machine uses VECTOR files, so any way you can make a vector file, and then you can save it from there in various formats that the KNK can open up and use. The KNK also has the ability to do all these same tasks that you would do in other programs and many people find it easier to just learn how to do it in the KNK Studio program rather then having to do file conversions.

Great! Thanks for the info! We manufacture & import crafts including a great deal of felt so this is exactly what I need. I take it you would recommend I order extra blades. :)

Yes....I would recommend that...and if you want to send me the exact felt you use, I will test cut it, take a picture and send the picture to you with the settings I used.
