Cutting Mat for the Klic N Kut

Hi, I live in Mexico and would like to make my own cutting mats for the Klic N Kut, but need to know what materials I can use and the thickness?
Can I use the self healing mats or are they too thick?

Some have used the self healing mats, they are a little heavy through, and I would only use it if I had flat beds.

Other materials you can use are template plastic for quilting, flexible cutting mats for your kitchen, or other lightweight sheets of plastic.
