cutting a file in half

hi all, I downloaded the beach file this morning and it has 3 things on it but I only want the beach sandals on it, how do I remove pieces of the file without destroying it?

I think the easiest thing to do is to put a box around the items that you don't want and drag them off to the side of the cutting area.

What she means is to hold your left mouse button and drag it completely over the image to select something.
